The fall migration of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird is just starting. First sightings were around the first of August in Eastern Nebraska and should be in full swing by mid to late August. If you haven’t done so yet, get those feeders out and start feeding our feathered little friends! Be sure not to purchase or use any nectar that has red dye in it… we want our Hummingbirds to be healthy and happy!!! Nectar Recipe: 4 cups water to 1 cup pure cane sugar Bring water to a boil…add sugar and boil for two minutes. Let cool. Refrigerate remaining nectar. All clips shot with a Panasonic AG-HMC150 at 720p 60fps and edited in Sony Vegas Pro 10

Little Hummers at the front feeder. We can see this feeder from the home office. It is a Dr. JB’s Hummingbird Feeder, the BEST feeder we have ever purchased and used on a regular basis. There is a dominant male Ruby-Throated Hummer usually guarding this feeder. Half of the time he will sit in the Dogwood tree just out of view and wait for other Hummers to try to feed, then zoom in and chase them. The other half of his time he sits on the feeder and waits for Hummers to fly in over the house roof and scares them away – he’s a trip! Taken with a 2nd Generation Flip MinoHD Brushed Chrome Mini Camcorder.
